Presentations

Step 1:

Write the answer to the question.

The full text answer of your answer must be included in your main Word document.

Step 2:

Create the presentations using Powerpoint, or similar software (OpenOffice/LibreOffice Impress, Google Presentation, et cetera).

They should look professional in design and layout, and be easy to read. Appropriate selection of template, enhancement with graphics or images, and clear fonts will all be addressed.

The font size is important that it is not too small. A good guide is that on a 45cm screen (like a laptop), you should be able to read it 3 to 4 meters away. On a 70cm monitor, it should be legible from 5 meters.

You can always take one slide with lots of text, and break it into several slides. Just place a heading at the top so people know this is carried over.

A PowerPoint slide should act as a visual prompt, not a script. Right now, the slide reads more like a textbook page, which can overwhelm your audience and cause them to stop listening while they read.

A good guideline is:

  • 6x6 rule – no more than 6 bullet points per slide, and no more than 6 words per bullet.
  • Use keywords and short phrases, not full sentences.
  • Keep the detail for your spoken presentation notes or handouts.

Then, when presenting, you can explain these points in your own words, keeping your audience’s attention on you rather than on reading the slide.

Overall, try to think of your slides as visual cues to support your presentation, not the main content itself.

If you do not have experience creating presentations, research it first.

Submit it as a separate file (.PPT, .ODP, or .PDF).

When using templates that you have not developed yourself, the last slide (and/or the first slide) should include a source credit like "Template by www.some-website.com".

If using images in your presentation, be sure to give them source credit as well (read Graphics and Images)
